Im a female, 45 and I have started to loose my hair since I was 40. I have no females in my family with this?

Jennifer G asked:

I have asked my Dr. and he has no clue. My hair loss is all in front. I have used rogain for women, while on a vegan diet and the hair was starting to thincken. But now that Im back to my routine diet of meat, breads, dairy, fruits and vegs. My hair has started to thin again, although I have continued to use rogain. I only take high blood pressure medication and its a low dose.
I also got off the artificial sweetner and was using stevia a natural sugar at the same time of the vegan diet. Can someone please help me before I invest in hair plugs!!!!

You might be having a problem with your thyroid. As is my understanding of it, the thyroid is a gland in your upper chest near the base of the neck that regulates certain hormones (or the metabolism of hormones or the regulation of hormones or something). Years ago, my mum had a growth in her thyroid, and she had to have her thyroid removed. She also had the same hair thinning/loss that you are describing.

My advice would be to see an endocrynologist (a specialist doctor who specialises in the endocryne system – the hormone system).

I am only speculating, but make sure you get an answer.

It could also be female hair loss. Female hair loss is actually quite common, and even though it doesn’t affect women quite as much as it affects men, there are often simple treatments for it, and the statistics are surprising, more women suffer from hair loss than you’d think.

However, as with all medical advice, it is MUCH better to see your doctor. Just because I said that there are simple treatments for it DOES NOT mean that after reading this, you go and buy some rogaine for women. Please see your doctor, and if you are really worried, an endocrynologist and get their professional opinion because I, myself am NOT a medical doctor.

Its called alopecia. It can be due to many things as mentioned by some other posters chief among them being stress and sometimes just genetics, but most of the time there is not an identifiable cause. It is most likely NOT related to diet. The condition usually passes, but can hang around a long time. You might consult a dermatologist for testing(?). Good luck

As you mentioned that you are a vegan. Which is an awesome thing but I read on the newspaper that most vegan are/go bald, and as you are having a hair loss that could be one reason. Most vegans go bald because they dont get anything that protein and milk/milk products have protein in them. I would suggest you stick to a vegitarian diet and have milk/milk prodcuts every once in 1 or 2 weeks that what I do and it works. Its mostly men that go bald from veganism, but very rare in woman. If you want to stay vegan and save some animal abuse then I would suggest asking one of those people that help you with diets and nutrition. They will be glad to help you. I dont really know how long you have done that vegan diet for but It takes time, if you have done the vegan diet for less than 40-50 years then that vegan diet might not be the case. But I would highly recommend you to see one of those diet and nutrition people for help.
