Hair Loss – I Am So Scared?
I am a 19 female. I have type 1 diabetes (for 10 years now). For the past 4-5 years I have been experiencing hair loss/ lots of shedding. I use to have the MOST THICK hair a girl could possibly have. Now days, it is SOOOO thin and rediculous. I have bad eating habits – don’t eat much meat and lately my blood sugar hasn’t been under the best control.. anyhow.. I just have no idea what could be causing my hair loss. I kinda think that it may be hormone related because I go through so many hot flashes/ dark patches of skin/ not regular menstrual cycles….things like that.. but I have also had my thyroid and iron tested and the levels are perfect.. so I don’t know if I am just in need of a certain mixture of vitamins/minerals or if I need a hormone regulating type of pill. I am just soo upset.
Maybe someone has a few suggestions/answers.
DO NOT SAY “SEE A DOC” – that is common sense and I have an apt. scheduled..I just want some answers now.

all you had to say was “bad eating habits”
women with eating disorders typically develpoe hair loss due to their poor diets.
I don’t know much about type 1 Disbetes; but Im guessing that its not that at all.. Its just your eating habits.
Change your diet! eat healthy foods; INCLUDING meats like turkey; chicken; etc. && fruits && veggies; && Im sure you will se much improvement!
Hope I helpedd; && Good luck! ?

OOOOOoooo. Bad eating habits?? not a good thing. You of all people should know that thats not good. You know people get they foots choped off and stuff for not taking care of themselves…You have Type 1. Thats why you are loosing your hair. But its better your hair than your foot. Start eating healthy and taking better care of yourself…

You could have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). This will cause women to have hair loss (on their head), increased hair growth on their chins, upper lip, arms, etc. (all the places you don’t want hair), hot flashes, irregular menstrual cycles, etc. It is typical for women with PCOS to have symptoms of diabetes (such as glucose intolerance), so I would imagine that it is typical for diabetic women to also have PCOS.
Good Luck!

Maybe youre blood sugar has to do with the non regular menstrual cycles. Is it possible you’re diabetes has reverted from Type 1 to hypoglycemia? maybe a question to ask the doc.
Anyways i used to struggle with thinning hair. It was so awful! I started taking all natural (from a healthfood store) prenatal vitamins when I was pregnant. my hair grew so nicely! all they are are doubled up multivitamins (dont let the name prenatal scare you, you dont have to be pregnant to take them). I still take them today and havent had a problem with my hair lately! its thick and long.
also I read somewhere (sorry I forgot where) that aspertain (artificial sweetner like sweet n low) can cause hormone imbalances and since your thyroids are fine it is probably hormonal why you are experiencing thinning hair. dont drink diet drinks or chew sugar free gum.
but since you arent allowed alot of sugar there is ‘agave nectar’ really good stuff (you can get it at healtfood stores) its good for skin. and can be used as a sweetner.
another tip: I use expensive shampoos becauase I was told it might be an allergy why my hair was suddenly thinning. So I use Aveda products or paul mitchel products. both are very botanical minus all the chemicals.
to this day I am allergic to laundry soaps that have fragrance! it causes dandruff and eczema. you might have your doc to an allergy test.

This sounds like PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). You will have to demand your doctor test your ovaries through an Ultrasound to see if you have multiple cysts. If you do they’ll probably place you on a medication called Metformin which will help with your diabetes and the PCOS. Another way for you to maybe determine on your own if you have this or not is by taking a good look to see if you have skin tags maybe around your neck. Skin tags sort of look like warts. If you do I will give you the best and quickest solution to getting rid of them. Castor Oil! Just rub it on to every skin tag you have at night and in about a week or so they will completely disappear. They don’t fall off they just continue to get small until they finally disappear. Be consistent. It doesn’t take long at all. I truly hope you find a solution. If I could magically make all your symptoms go away I would!! Take care!!!

Your diet seems to be the problem. You need proteins, vitamins, zinc, iron, copper, etc in your blood for healthy hair. You need to eat fruits, veggies, milk, meat to have a proper diet.
