Do you have to be HIV positive to be an AIDS activist or to run a AIDS campaign?

I am doing this report on how to become an AIDS activist… I am not HIV positive though…So can you not have HIV and be an activist or run an AIDS awareness campaign?I just wanna do something nice for my community and get people to be as aware of AIDS as they are of gun violence, breast cancer, and many other diseases because I believe that this disease is even more serious and dangerous than anything else because you can tell if someone has cancer sometimes cause they have a loss of hair and stuff like that and you can tell if someone has some other type of virus or disease but you cant tell if someone has HIV. I just wanna help people thats all but I just wanna know if you specifically have to be HIV positive to make a real campaign for AIDS or to make a powerful and effective enough campaign to really get together and save our brothers and sisters all over the world who are dying of AIDS and also because I am an African American female and we are the number one carriers of HIV I wanna make sure that I never become infected and that I can help African American females and everyone else around the world who suffers from HIV to be okay and I believe I can find a cure for this deadly disease because I know so much about HIV itself and how this disease can take out a whole race of people because they are not aware of their status and where they stand with HIV.So please help me help other people and answer this question for me. You will be truly appreciated.

I am not HIV positive but I have volunteered at HIV/AIDS Centers. I have walked to raise money. Its a cause I am deeply willing to help search for a cure. i have lots too many beloved friends to this monster and one day said monster will be only a lizard that we can eradicate by squashing.
BTW I am a straight, white, female, married with 5 grown kids. i started helping in the fight in about 1988 or 89 after losing a dear friend. My first close friend to lost to this beast. Welcome to the side of right. This is a much bigger issue than people realize. And its ever been God’s curse on gay men as I have heard hypocritical preachers say. Children are also suffering with this. Many more live good lives thanks to research but losing one more person to this is one too many. Good luck.

No, you don’t. I am HIV+ and my oldest brother was feeling hopeless because he couldn’t help me. He lives in Washington state and is putting together an race to raise money for HIV/AIDS.

I don’t believe so. I think you should educate yourself as much as possible in order to know the background of the disease, the statistics of people living with it, who died from it, who were born with it. What countries does it affect more and any other questions that would help you understand the topic your speaking about, so that you could in turn educate others.
I understand why you ask though because their are some mental health agencies and I think some drug agencies that mostly hire consumer survivors.

As a HIV Educator and Trainer activist come in all different shapes and forms,some are negative, so are positive. So if you are interested in being an HIV activists, go for it!! Good Luck!
