Could I have cancer?

firecaptainwfe asked:

I am 35 yrs old, female. My rehmutologist called today and said that my labs were okay, but wants me to see an oncologist in three days. I have anemia, I take b12 shots weekly. I have been having hair loss (minor), bruising for no reason, tired. I figured the above was from the anemia, could I have cancer?

Best to check with the oncologist. It is important to rule out serious causes of anemia like certain cancers, at least just in case. It could also be caused by non-cancer things. But remember, the only thing worse than having cancer is not knowing, or doing anything about it!

Well . . in general someone with anemia would be seen by a Hematologist . . which is a doctor that specializes in blood disorders. Often hematology and oncology are grouped together so that a hematologist oncologist can treat ‘blood cancer’ or leukemia. An oncologist would treat the solid tumors . . while the hematologist would treat cancers of the blood. So . . it may be that the person you are seeing treats blood disorders and cancers too . . . and so would be treating your anemia. Or it could be that your doctor feels you need further testing to determine if you might have something more than anemia . . and feels that in your case a specialist is warranted. Not sure though why you didn’t ask your doctor this?

Well i’m not alarming you, I’ve only heard that Anemic people can also get cancer (Leukemia) But you don’t need to worry, because it seemed like they’ve detected it early if you have it, so just calm down and wait for the results, it’s proberly not bad as you think.
